From the beginning, my new daughter-in-law, Wendy, made it clear that my five-year-old grandson, Alex, wasn’t part of the future she imagined. My son, Matthew, seemed willing to overlook it, but I couldn’t ignore how much the little boy needed to feel loved and accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex had already lost his mother, and he had been living with me. He was a gentle child who carried his favorite toys everywhere and wanted nothing more than to belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
