She was a former Miss World. When Chubby Checker and Catharina Lodders married in 1964, their love challenged a society where many people still opposed interracial relationships. 💔

Ernest Evans, known worldwide as Chubby Checker, was 22 and already a music sensation. Catharina Lodders, 21, was a Dutch beauty queen who had won Miss World in 1962. They met in Manila, and Chubby later described their connection as love at first sight. ❤️

But America in 1964 was still deeply divided. Although the Civil Rights Act had just become law, bans on interracial marriage remained in many states. The couple even faced discrimination while searching for a home near Philadelphia.

Still, they refused to let prejudice determine their future. They married at Temple Lutheran Church in Pennsauken, New Jersey, and built a life together despite the criticism.

Chubby’s response to those who questioned their relationship was simple: “Love ain’t got no color on it.” 💛

Over the decades, his music made history, and his career experienced its share of highs and lows. Yet their commitment to each other endured.

Today, after 62 years of marriage, Chubby Checker and Catharina remain together. Their story is a reminder that love can survive prejudice, overcome obstacles, and stand the test of time.

Some love stories inspire songs. Theirs became a legacy of its own.

He was the man who made the world dance to the Twist.
