I grew up in foster care after my mother gave me up as a baby. For years, I lived with the unanswered question of why she had left me behind. When I turned 22, I finally found her and gathered the courage to knock on her door, hoping she might welcome me into her life.

Instead, everything fell apart. The moment she learned I worked as a waitress, she told me she didn’t want me around her other children and shut the door in my face.

Forty days later, my phone rang. It was my mother, crying desperately. Her oldest daughter—my sister—was seriously ill and urgently needed a bone marrow donor. No one in the family was a match, and I was their last hope.

Despite the rejection I had experienced, I couldn’t ignore the thought of an innocent child fighting for her life. I agreed to undergo testing, and the results revealed that I was a perfect match.

The donation was physically painful and emotionally overwhelming, but I never questioned my decision. I was doing it to save my sister.

Afterward, my mother found me in the hospital hallway and broke down, pleading for forgiveness. I looked at her and gently explained that I had done it for my sister, not for her.

That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter. My siblings welcomed me into their lives, and little by little, my mother began trying to make amends for the years of hurt she had caused.

For the first time, I no longer felt like the child who had been forgotten. I finally began to feel that I belonged somewhere—to a family I had spent my entire life longing for.
