Before we went, I clearly told her I was on a tight budget and couldn’t afford an expensive night out.

She brushed off my concerns, promising it would be fine. Once we were seated, however, our choices couldn’t have been more different. Vanessa ordered an expensive steak, several sides, and wine, while I chose a simple salad and water.

She joked that I needed to learn how to enjoy life, but I knew my financial priorities. With rising rent, car repairs, and savings to rebuild, spending carelessly wasn’t an option.

Then the bill arrived. Vanessa casually suggested splitting it equally. Half the total would have cost me more than ten times what I had actually ordered.

But I had planned ahead. Before she arrived, I had asked the waiter for separate checks.

My bill came to just over $18. Hers was nearly $400.

Vanessa wasn’t happy and complained that splitting the bill would have been easier. But I calmly reminded her that I had been honest about my budget from the beginning.

For once, I didn’t feel guilty for standing up for myself. That dinner taught me an important lesson: being a good friend doesn’t mean paying for someone else’s choices.

I Agreed to Dinner With My Friend—But I Refused to Pay for Her $400 Meal I should have trusted my instincts when Vanessa chose an upscale steakhouse…

[1

post-11124","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
