Burned Wood Discovered Nearly 30 Feet Underground—Could It Be Connected to Noah’s Ark?

Deep beneath a mysterious boat-shaped formation in eastern Türkiye, researchers have uncovered wood fragments that may bring renewed attention to one of history’s greatest mysteries.

The material, reportedly recovered from nearly 30 feet underground, includes both burned and unburned wood. The discovery was announced in October 2026 following an investigation near Mount Ararat, an area traditionally linked to the biblical story of Noah’s Ark.

Known as the Durupınar formation, the unusual site stretches approximately 515 feet—similar to the dimensions traditionally associated with Noah’s Ark in the Book of Genesis. Since its discovery in 1959, the formation has attracted explorers and researchers hoping to determine whether it could hold clues to the legendary vessel.

Recent investigations have used ground-penetrating radar, drilling equipment, and advanced mapping technology. Researchers identified unusual underground patterns, including possible cavities and layered structures. A three-dimensional model was also created to help examine the formation.

The newly recovered wood has added another question to the investigation. Some researchers believe the material deserves closer examination, while acknowledging that the burned fragments could have come from a much more recent fire.

Samples have reportedly been sent for laboratory testing, including carbon-14 dating and wood identification. These examinations may help establish how old the material is and where it came from.

However, not everyone is convinced. Many geologists believe the formation is a natural structure created by geological processes such as landslides and erosion. Previous studies have also supported this explanation.

Although some members of the research team believe the findings warrant further investigation, no independently verified evidence has established that Noah’s Ark is buried at the site.

For now, the mystery remains unresolved. The laboratory results could provide important clues—but whether they reveal something extraordinary or simply explain another unusual geological formation remains to be seen.
