Behind her, our three kids were bickering\u2014homework disputes, a missing sock, and a fight over the blue cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our life, chaotic as always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey\u2019re having a ten-year reunion,\u201d she said casually. \u201cNext month. I was thinking of going.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I laughed\u2014not out of humor, but out of disbelief. \u201cWhy?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo you can tell everyone you stay home and wipe noses all day?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No argument. No tears. She just went back to the sink, washing dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She skipped the reunion. And for days, she barely spoke to me\u2014not really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She answered questions about dinner, the kids, bills\u2014but the warmth, the laughter, the little touches passing in the hallway\u2014they were all gone. Inside was a large, professionally framed photo of her entire graduating class. Rows of smiling faces, some familiar, many I had only heard about. Across the white matting were dozens of signatures\u2014some neat, some messy, all personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
