His mom looked at me with sympathy, like I\u2019d already failed some invisible test. \u201cYou deserve a partner who contributes,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I thought that was the peak of the awkwardness.
