My daughter-in-law was on the other end, panicked and struggling to breathe. She said the pain had started, that she thought the baby was coming. She begged me to take her to the hospital. My son\u2014her husband\u2014was out of town, hours away. I was the only one nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I should have gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone would have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
