Those who qualify are being notified by mail that their eligible medical debt has been forgiven, with no application or action required on their part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The impact is especially noticeable in several counties. In <strong>San Diego County<\/strong>, more than <strong>40,000 residents<\/strong> have seen nearly <strong>$99 million<\/strong> in medical debt erased. Meanwhile, <strong>Los Angeles County<\/strong> has benefited from the cancellation of roughly <strong>$26.7 million<\/strong> in debt affecting more than <strong>17,000 people<\/strong>. Additional communities throughout California are also receiving relief through the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Undue Medical Debt works by purchasing qualifying medical debt portfolios for a small fraction of their original value.
