When I was a teenager, I dreamed of learning guitar, but my family couldn’t afford lessons or a new instrument. Every day after school, I would stop at a little music shop and stare at the same guitar in the window, imagining myself playing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I often told my dad about my dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He always listened without making promises or telling me to give up. At the time, though, I misunderstood his quiet nature. I thought that if he truly believed in me, he would say so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One afternoon, after seeing my friends start guitar lessons, I came home frustrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome people are just lucky,\u201d I complained. \u201cMaybe I should forget about guitar. Wanting something doesn’t matter if you can’t afford it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dad didn’t argue. He simply listened and walked away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I took his silence as a sign that he didn’t care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
