24-Year-Old Travel Vlogger Dies After Pickup Truck Is Swept Away by River During Nicaragua Trip
French travel vlogger Emma Marie Laurent, 24, died while traveling in Nicaragua after a pickup truck she was riding in was swept away by a river. Two other women also lost their lives, while the driver survived.
The accident happened on October 9 after heavy rain caused the Nahualapa River in northern Nicaragua to become dangerously fast-flowing. The driver attempted to cross, but the powerful current carried the vehicle away.
Nicaragua’s co-president, Rosario Murillo, later warned that rivers can become dangerous without warning, even when they appear calm.
A Life Spent Exploring the World
Laurent had built a following of around 43,000 people by sharing her travels and adventures across Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. She often documented her van-life experiences and described herself as someone who lived between two suitcases.
Just a week before the tragedy, she shared a message from Portugal about appreciating the beauty of the world and the people who know how to admire it.
In another post, she described her ideal life as finding someone who would choose van adventures over a five-star hotel.
Her final journey has left a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly circumstances can change—and how important it is to respect the dangers of fast-moving water.
