At Grandma’s funeral, my half-sister Victoria made it clear that she had never considered me part of the family. After my mother passed away when I was seven, Grandma took me in and raised me as her own. But Victoria always treated me as though I didn’t truly belong.

When the lawyer read the will, Victoria received the family home, money, jewelry, and antiques. My inheritance seemed almost insignificant: a few books, some photographs, and Grandma’s old wool coat.
