A glove discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s home—believed by investigators to match the one worn by a masked figure captured on doorbell footage—could mark an important step forward in the investigation.
According to the FBI, DNA collected from the glove is now being analyzed as part of efforts to identify a possible suspect. Former Fort Worth police chief Jeffrey Halstead explained that the speed of results depends on the quality and type of DNA recovered.
“These are very strong and encouraging developments,” Halstead said.
Because of the seriousness of the case, testing may be prioritized, potentially allowing results to come back faster than normal. In some situations, Halstead noted, answers could arrive within 24 to 48 hours.
Even small amounts of DNA—such as touch DNA—can be meaningful if they can be clearly connected to the glove and, by extension, the individual seen on video. Halstead emphasized that all forms of DNA evidence can play a critical role when properly linked.
Investigators are also expected to concentrate their search around the area where the glove was found, gradually expanding outward. If the DNA matches a known individual, Halstead said authorities could move quickly, leading to significant progress and stronger investigative leads in a short time.
