What to Consider Before Buying Milk from Costco

I didn’t expect a simple shopping trip to turn into such a mess. One ordinary visit to Costco and one oddly designed square milk jug were all it took for my kitchen to descend into chaos. At first, the container looked clever—modern, compact, and easy to store. But the moment I tried pouring from it, milk splashed everywhere: the counter, the cabinets, the floor, even my pajamas. It felt like the jug had its own rebellious personality, determined to spill no matter what I did.

Despite that experience, shopping at Costco still feels a bit like visiting a wonderland. The massive aisles, giant tubs of hummus, towering stacks of cereal, and bulk packages of paper towels that seem to last forever are part of the store’s charm. But that square milk container disrupted the magic. What should have been an easy morning routine quickly turned into a daily struggle, as if I were fighting some strange lesson in dairy physics. No matter how carefully I tilted or slowed the pour, milk always managed to splash in unexpected directions.

I even tried adjusting my technique—tilting the jug differently, pouring more slowly, and experimenting with different grips. Nothing made a difference. Eventually, I gave up. I stopped buying milk there, not because of the quality or price, but because I wanted my mornings to feel calm again. I needed something simple and reliable to start the day.

Now I buy milk from a regular grocery store, and the standard jug feels almost luxurious by comparison. Pouring a glass is smooth, easy, and mess-free. It’s a small reminder that sometimes the simplest designs are the best ones—and that a peaceful morning can be worth more than a clever-looking container.
