Former President Bill Clinton, looking frail but in good spirits, shared an update on Wednesday about his recovery after being hospitalized last week with sepsis. In a video posted to his official Twitter account, he thanked hospital staff for their care.
“Hi everyone, I was deeply touched by all the support I received during my hospital stay,” he said. “I want to thank the doctors and nurses at UC Irvine Medical Centre for their excellent care over the past week.”
Clinton added he plans to stay active and continue contributing:
“I’m going to do my best to be around, to keep doing the most good I can, for a lot longer.”
An aide clarified that Clinton had a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream but never reached septic shock. Doctors confirmed his fever and white blood cell count are now normal, and he will return home to New York to complete his antibiotics.
“I’m really glad to be back home, enjoying this beautiful fall weather. I’m on the road to recovery,” Clinton said, also urging others to pay attention to their health:
“Take the time to listen to your bodies and care for yourselves. Each of us has an important role to play in life.”
