I’ve never gotten along with my ex-husband’s wife. Even after eight years of their marriage, her attitude has always felt cold and condescending. So when our son’s graduation came, I asked my ex not to bring her—I just wanted one peaceful moment focused on my child. He agreed, and I felt relieved.
But after the ceremony, everything fell apart. Instead of celebrating with me, my son and his father headed straight to their car. Confused, I reminded them about the small party I had planned. That’s when my ex told me they were going to his house instead—his wife had organized a bigger celebration to make up for missing the graduation.
Then my son looked at me and said something that broke me:
“You’ll never get over Dad leaving you for her, Mom… and that’s sad. You’re my mom, but she’s been in my life since I was ten.”
They drove off, leaving me standing there alone, in tears.
Now I can’t stop wondering… was I wrong for wanting one special day without her?
