I Skipped My Son’s Wedding to Stand by His Ex-Wife—And Here’s Why
My 25-year-old son married a kind 23-year-old named Tina. At first, everything seemed perfect, and I believed their love would grow stronger with the arrival of their baby boy. But over time, Tina revealed a painful truth: my son had cheated on her multiple times—and she had proof.
I confronted her, apologized, and even offered my support if she wanted to leave him. She forgave him repeatedly, showing patience and love I couldn’t fully understand. Then, months later, my son casually called to say he was filing for divorce and invited us to his new wedding.
The arrogance of it broke me. On the day of his wedding, instead of attending, my husband and I went straight to Tina’s small, rented apartment. I helped her care for her baby, tidied her home, and offered comfort in small ways—cookies, a kind word, a helping hand.
When my son called demanding to know where we were, I simply said, “I’m with your ex-wife. You were a terrible husband, and I’m ashamed of you.”
Seeing Tina—exhausted, hurting, but still trying—reminded me that loyalty, compassion, and standing up for what’s right sometimes matter more than attending a ceremony.
