After a long and exhausting procedure in the operating room, a surgeon stretched his fingers and shook out his hands, clearly feeling the strain.
“Wow,” he sighed, flexing his fingers. “My hands are completely cramped after that one.”
Turning to his trusted scrub nurse, he added with a half-smile, “Brenda, any chance you could help me ease some of this tension?”
Brenda looked up, caught the tone, and gave a playful smirk. Without missing a beat, she replied, “Sorry, Doctor—but hospital rules are pretty strict. I’m only allowed to handle your instruments when everything is properly covered and in place.”
For a second, there was silence—then both of them burst out laughing.
The tension in the room melted instantly. It was one of those moments where humor sneaks in at just the right time, reminding everyone that even in high-pressure environments like a hospital, a quick wit and a lighthearted response can go a long way.
Sometimes, it’s not just skill that gets people through long days—it’s the ability to laugh, reset, and keep going.
