For years, my wife Nara had been the most dependable person I knew. No matter how busy work became, she always made it home for dinner, helped our daughter Lena with homework, and somehow still found time to relax with the family before bed.
That’s why I immediately noticed when things started changing.
Almost overnight, Nara began coming home late—sometimes hours after Lena had already gone to sleep. Every evening there seemed to be another explanation, another urgent project, another reason she couldn’t leave the office.
“We’re dealing with something important at work,” she would tell me. “Just a little longer.”
I wanted to trust her.
After all, she had never given me a reason not to.
But as the days turned into weeks, a feeling I couldn’t explain began growing inside me.
The hardest part wasn’t my own worry—it was watching our ten-year-old daughter notice the difference too.
“Is Mom coming home tonight?” Lena would ask quietly during dinner.
I never knew how to answer.
Then one evening, I noticed something strange.
Nara had just finished showering and was brushing her hair in front of the bathroom mirror. As she lifted her arms, I caught sight of faint red marks around both wrists.
They looked fresh.
Almost like something had been wrapped tightly around them.
“What happened to your wrists?” I asked.
She glanced down for only a second before pulling her sleeves lower.
“Nothing. Just irritation.”
The answer came too quickly.
And something about it didn’t feel right.
What made it even stranger was that Nara hated wearing watches, bracelets, or anything around her wrists. I knew that because she had complained about them since the day we met.
Yet those marks looked exactly like they had been caused by something being worn tightly for hours.
That night I barely slept.
Questions kept circling through my mind.
Why was she suddenly working so late?
Why did she seem distant?
And what was causing those marks?
Eventually, my concern turned into determination.
One evening, without warning her, I decided to stop by her office after work.
I expected to find answers.
What I discovered instead forced me to rethink everything I believed was happening—and made me realize that sometimes the people we love most are carrying burdens we never even notice.
