What began as a standard transatlantic departure quickly turned into a moment of concern after a mechanical issue occurred shortly after takeoff.
Recently released video captures a British Airways jet shedding a rear landing-gear wheel moments after lifting off from Las Vegas late Monday night, January 26. Despite the malfunction, the aircraft continued climbing and proceeded on its scheduled flight to London.
The plane, an Airbus A350-1000 operating as British Airways flight BA274, departed Harry Reid International Airport at approximately 9:10 p.m. local time. Footage shows an object detaching from beneath the aircraft seconds after takeoff and falling back toward the runway. Officials later confirmed the item was a wheel from the main landing gear.
The wheel came down within airport grounds, and authorities reported no injuries or property damage as a result of the incident.
Despite the issue, the flight continued without further complications and landed safely at London Heathrow, arriving 27 minutes earlier than scheduled, according to flight-tracking records. British Airways released a statement reaffirming that passenger safety is its highest priority and confirmed it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
Airport officials also acknowledged the incident and emphasized that the aircraft completed its journey safely.
