The Parrot Finally Found His Voice—But What He Said Next Stunned Everyone

A lonely woman walked into a pet shop one afternoon looking for some companionship.

“I really need a pet,” she told the shopkeeper. “I live alone and could use some company.”

The shopkeeper pointed toward a colorful parrot.

“You should consider this bird. He’s very smart, and once he gets used to you, he’ll learn to talk.”

The woman was thrilled. She bought the parrot, brought him home, and spent the entire evening waiting for him to say something.

But the bird remained completely silent.

The following day, she returned to the shop.

“The parrot hasn’t said a single word,” she complained.

The shopkeeper thought for a moment.

“I have an idea. Buy this small ladder. Parrots like climbing. It will keep him active, and once he becomes comfortable, he’ll probably start talking.”

The woman bought the ladder and placed it inside the cage.

The next morning, the parrot was still silent.

She returned to the shop.

“Still nothing!”

The shopkeeper nodded.

“Then try a mirror. If he sees his reflection, he may become curious and start communicating.”

She bought the mirror and put it in the cage.

The next morning, nothing had changed.

The parrot simply sat on his perch and stared at her.

Frustrated, the woman returned to the store again.

“I’ve tried everything! He’s still completely silent.”

The shopkeeper scratched his head and looked around.

Then he noticed a little swing hanging near the counter.

“That’s it!” he exclaimed. “Get him this swing. Parrots love playing on swings. Once he has some fun, he’ll relax and start talking.”

The woman eagerly bought the swing and installed it in the cage.

She was convinced this would finally solve the problem.

But the next morning, something was wrong.

The parrot wasn’t moving.

She called his name.

Nothing.

She opened the cage and gently touched him.

Still nothing.

The poor bird had died.

Heartbroken, she rushed back to the pet shop in tears.

“My parrot died!”

The shopkeeper was shocked.

“Oh, I’m terribly sorry! Did he say anything before he passed away?”

The woman nodded through her tears.

“Yes. He finally spoke.”

The shopkeeper looked surprised.

“He did? What did he say?”

She took a deep breath and repeated the parrot’s final words:

“Don’t they sell any food in this store?”

The shopkeeper froze.

Then he slowly turned toward the shelves behind him.

The woman looked confused.

“What?”

He pointed upward.

Hanging directly above the pet supplies was a huge sign:

BIRD FOOD — RIGHT HERE.

The poor parrot had spent all that time surrounded by ladders, mirrors, and swings while nobody thought to give him the one thing he actually needed.

Food.

And after everything they had tried to make him talk…

His first—and last—words were simply a complaint about being hungry.
