My father owns a successful business, and for years, my husband worked for him. I was never involved in the company and never saw myself as someone who could run a business, so my father had already been thinking about its future.
His plan was to eventually put my husband in charge. He trusted him, respected his abilities, and believed he was the right person to continue everything he had worked so hard to build.
I never questioned my father’s decision. My husband appeared ambitious, dedicated, and trustworthy. At least, that was the man I thought I knew.
Then I discovered he was having an affair.
There was no misunderstanding or room for excuses. I found messages, photos, and enough evidence to prove exactly what he had been doing. What followed was a painful scandal and an ugly divorce.
My father was furious, but he didn’t fire my husband immediately. Despite everything, he had to admit that my ex was good at his job.
However, Dad made one decision that was final.
My ex would never inherit the business.
The future he had once been counting on disappeared instantly. Instead of preparing him to take over the company, Dad gave him a high-level management position with far less earning potential and told him he would have to rebuild his reputation from the ground up.
My ex was furious.
He accused Dad of destroying his career and claimed his personal mistakes had nothing to do with his work. My father simply reminded him that trust can disappear in a single moment—and once it is gone, nobody is entitled to have it restored.
Eventually, things became even worse.
My ex had a major disagreement with Dad over an important business decision. This time, my father had reached his limit.
He fired him.
Not long afterward, the woman he had cheated with left him too.
Suddenly, everything my ex had expected to have was gone. His career was falling apart, his relationship was over, and the comfortable future he had once believed was guaranteed had disappeared.
That was when he started trying to get me back.
At first, I ignored him. Then came the apologies.
He told me he had made the biggest mistake of his life. He claimed losing me had finally made him understand what truly mattered and that I was the person who had always genuinely loved him.
But I couldn’t stop thinking about one question.
If my father were still planning to give him the company, would he have suddenly realized how much he loved me?
I never gave him the chance to find out.
I told him that some doors only open once, and he had already been given every opportunity to walk through mine.
He chose someone else.
Now he had to live with that decision.
And surprisingly, watching him lose everything he once believed was guaranteed didn’t make me feel cruel. Instead, it made me realize how fortunate I was that my father recognized the truth before I did.
Story 2
I was with my boyfriend for four years. I loved him, trusted him, and honestly believed we were building a future together.
Then I discovered that he had cheated on me.
The betrayal was painful enough, but what hurt even more was how casually he behaved afterward. He seemed convinced that I would eventually calm down, forgive him, and let him back into my life.
I kicked him out of my apartment and made it clear that I never wanted to see him again.
For a while, I kept wondering how I could make him understand that his actions had consequences. I didn’t want revenge that was dangerous or illegal. I simply wanted him to realize that he couldn’t betray someone and expect everything to remain the same.
Then I remembered something.
He had left a ridiculous amount of his belongings at my apartment.
Clothes, shoes, electronics, small pieces of furniture, and countless other things were still taking up space. Apparently, he assumed they would all be waiting for him whenever he decided to come back.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
He never came for any of it.
I began to wonder if he had intentionally left everything behind because he still believed there was a chance I’d forgive him. Maybe he imagined he’d eventually return with a dramatic apology and somehow walk back into my life.
So I decided to make a small change to his plan.
I put all of his belongings up for sale online.
At first, I felt a little guilty. Then I remembered the lies, the cheating, and how confidently he had assumed I’d still be waiting for him.
The guilt didn’t last long.
I photographed everything, listed the items at reasonable prices, and within hours, people started contacting me.
I’ve already sold half of it.
The surprising part is that I don’t even feel angry anymore.
Every time another item leaves my apartment, it feels like I’m taking back another small piece of my life. While he is apparently trying to figure out how to get me back, his belongings are finding completely new homes.
My apartment is finally becoming uncluttered, I feel much better, and I’ve even made enough money to buy myself some new clothes.
So technically, he cheated on me and left me heartbroken.
But somehow, I ended up with a cleaner apartment, some extra cash, and absolutely no reason to take him back.
