Barack Obama Takes a Swipe at Trump After Democrats Score Major Midterm Victory
Democrats are celebrating a major election victory after reportedly regaining control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Former President Barack Obama welcomed the results, using a social media message to criticize the direction of the country under Donald Trump and encourage Democrats to keep pushing for change.
The election results marked a significant setback for Republicans, with Democrats securing important victories in several traditionally Republican-leaning states, including Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio, Maine, and Iowa.
The outcome also returned control of the House to Democrats for the first time since 2023. Beyond the individual races, the midterms were widely viewed as an important measure of public opinion regarding Trump’s presidency.
Trump had actively campaigned for Republican candidates, urging voters to consider his leadership when casting their ballots. Following the results, he responded on Truth Social, claiming that Republicans would have won by a landslide if his own name had appeared on the ballot.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump acknowledged that he had expected his party to perform better.
“I thought they’d do better, we had tremendous rallies. I thought that I could transfer those people into candidates,” he said, while also congratulating Democrats on their performance.
Trump later shared an image of a red baseball cap displaying the word “Veto,” appearing to signal that he could oppose legislation proposed by the Democratic-controlled Congress.
Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama had been actively supporting Democratic candidates during the campaign. He publicly endorsed Abdul El-Sayed and appeared alongside him at a campaign event at Cass Technical High School in Detroit on October 24.
According to the original report, El-Sayed secured a historic victory in Michigan, defeating Republican Mike Rogers and becoming the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate.
Following the election, Obama published a message on social media describing the results as a clear expression of what Americans want from their political leaders.
“Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face,” Obama wrote.
He also praised the candidates who competed across the country, highlighting their different backgrounds and political perspectives, as well as their commitment to public service.
Obama thanked election officials and volunteers from both parties for helping ensure the election process ran smoothly.
He concluded by urging Democrats to make the most of their political influence over the next two years.
“While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future,” he wrote.
