Jessica Hilliard’s family is mourning a loss they say still feels impossible to accept. But as more details surrounding her final moments have emerged, her loved ones say one thing stands out clearly: the way she acted that night reflected exactly who she had always been.
The 34-year-old Pennsylvania mother of three is being remembered as caring, funny, protective, and fiercely devoted to the people around her. She leaves behind three children, a grieving family, and a community now trying to honor her memory.
On April 27, 2026, Hilliard’s sister, Amanda Evachek, shared an emotional Facebook post alongside a photo of Jessica with one of her children. “You guys, my heart hurts so bad. I want my sister back,” she wrote.
Later that same day, Krick’s Tavern—where Jessica had worked as a bartender—announced a fundraiser in her memory. The post described her as “bright, spunky, and bubbly,” but also emphasized that she was far more than that: a devoted mother, loyal friend, loving sister, and daughter.
According to authorities, the tragedy unfolded early Sunday morning, April 26, outside Niki’s Quick Six in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Police say a verbal altercation escalated in the parking lot after a woman entered the bar claiming she had been attacked outside. Several people reportedly rushed out to help, including Hilliard.
Her sisters later explained that Jessica stepped in because she believed another woman was in danger.
“Our sister died a hero,” Evachek said. “She was always the kind of person who would help anyone, whether she knew them or not.”
Investigators say the suspected gunman fired multiple shots into a crowd while fleeing the scene. Hilliard was fatally struck, while three other people suffered injuries. Authorities later arrested the suspect at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Family members say Jessica’s actions that night did not surprise them because helping others was simply part of who she was. They described her as a dedicated mother who worked tirelessly to care for her children, especially through their health challenges.
“She was a great mother and my best friend,” her sister Hailey Frawley shared. “She always cared deeply about other people.”
Now, the family’s focus has shifted toward supporting Jessica’s children and preserving the memory of the woman they say brought energy, laughter, and love into every room she entered.
A GoFundMe fundraiser created to help cover funeral expenses and support her children describes her as “protective, strong, and deeply loved.” Community members have continued rallying around the family as they process the heartbreaking loss.
For those who knew her best, the most painful part of the story is also what defines Jessica Hilliard’s legacy: she stepped in to help because someone needed it. And according to her family, that is exactly the kind of person she was.
