Snap CEO Evan Spiegel and Miranda Kerr Help Eliminate $550 Million in Medical Debt Across California
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel and his wife, Miranda Kerr, have made a significant charitable contribution that is bringing financial relief to hundreds of thousands of Californians.
Through a multimillion-dollar donation to the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, the couple has helped eliminate approximately $550 million in medical debt for more than 261,000 people across the state. Those who qualify are being notified by mail that their eligible medical debt has been forgiven, with no application or action required on their part.
The impact is especially noticeable in several counties. In San Diego County, more than 40,000 residents have seen nearly $99 million in medical debt erased. Meanwhile, Los Angeles County has benefited from the cancellation of roughly $26.7 million in debt affecting more than 17,000 people. Additional communities throughout California are also receiving relief through the program.
Undue Medical Debt works by purchasing qualifying medical debt portfolios for a small fraction of their original value. Once acquired, the organization permanently forgives the debt instead of attempting to collect it, allowing donated funds to assist a large number of people.
For many families, this means relief from financial obligations that may have affected their credit, increased stress, or made it more difficult to move forward after unexpected medical expenses.
As healthcare costs continue to present challenges for many Americans, this initiative demonstrates how targeted charitable giving can provide meaningful financial support and improve the lives of thousands of individuals and families.
