How to Clean a Dirty Oven Glass Using Simple Natural Ingredients
Keeping your oven clean is especially important if you use it regularly. Food can splatter onto the glass and interior walls, leaving behind grease, stains, and unpleasant odors. Over time, these marks can become difficult to remove with a simple wipe.
A dirty oven is not only unattractive but can also make cooking less pleasant. Fortunately, you don’t always need strong cleaning products to remove everyday grease and stains. A few simple household ingredients can help keep the oven glass clean and shiny.
Vinegar and Baking Soda for Oven Cleaning
Baking soda and white vinegar are two commonly used household ingredients for cleaning. They can be particularly useful for loosening grease and food residue from oven glass.
To make a simple cleaning paste, combine 4–5 tablespoons of baking soda with a small amount of white vinegar. Mix until you have a thick, smooth paste.
Spread the mixture over the dirty glass and gently scrub it with a soft sponge or cloth. Leave it on the surface for around 10–15 minutes, then wipe it away with a damp cloth.
For tougher stains, the oven can be warmed slightly beforehand, but it should never be hot when you begin cleaning. Always allow it to cool enough to handle safely.
What to Use for Tough, Stubborn Grease
Some stains may be too stubborn for baking soda alone. In these cases, a suitable kitchen degreaser can help loosen hardened grease.
Another option is a small amount of dishwashing liquid diluted with water. Avoid using a large amount of detergent, as it can be difficult to rinse away completely. After cleaning, wipe the glass several times with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining residue.
Why Can the Inside of the Oven Glass Become Dirty?
Many oven doors have two or more layers of glass with a small space between them. Because of this design, grease and food residue can sometimes reach areas that cannot be cleaned from the outside.
If the glass appears dirty between the panes, simply wiping the front or back surface will not solve the problem.
Some oven doors allow the glass panels to be removed for cleaning. However, the exact procedure varies between models. Before attempting to remove the glass, make sure the oven is completely switched off and cooled down, and check the manufacturer’s instruction manual.
If your oven is designed to allow the glass to be removed, clean the panels carefully with a soft cloth and a mild cleaning mixture. A solution made with water and baking soda can help with light grease and residue.
Once cleaning is complete, make sure every glass panel is correctly positioned and securely fitted before using the oven again.
A Simple Cleaning Routine Can Make a Difference
Regularly wiping the oven glass after cooking can prevent grease and food residue from building up. Cleaning small marks before they become hardened stains can make the entire oven much easier to maintain.
