When I was sixteen, I was convinced I had already found the person I would spend the rest of my life with.
Aaron had been by my side through some of the most difficult moments of my life. He comforted me when I felt overwhelmed, celebrated my successes, and stayed with me as we slowly grew from teenagers into adults. Everyone who knew us assumed marriage was simply a matter of time. Some people were even surprised that we waited so long.
The years continued to pass. Friends around us became engaged, got married, had children, and began new chapters of their lives. I never rushed Aaron, though. Whenever I brought up our future, he reassured me that he wanted everything to be right before taking that next step.
Then, after fifteen years together, he finally proposed.
I couldn’t stop crying tears of happiness. All the uncertainty I had carried over the years seemed to disappear in an instant. Suddenly, all those years of waiting felt completely worth it.
We had a small but beautiful wedding surrounded by family and friends who had watched our relationship grow since our high-school days.
For the first time in a long time, I felt completely confident about where my life was heading.
I truly believed I had finally found the happy ending I had dreamed about since I was sixteen.
